Therapy for Mums & Dads: My approach

I know from my own personal experience that starting therapy can feel uncertain and anxiety provoking and making changes can feel challenging. I’m here to offer a safe and containing space for you, to not only explore, and understand where your difficulties stem from, but also to support you to be able to make the changes you want to in there here and now.

I understand that when we come to therapy, we are bringing the most challenging and distressing parts of our lives to the surface. I’m here to hear those parts and support you to make the changes you’d like to make.

My process is one of collaboration. I will bring my expertise and ideas about what might be helpful, but you will always be in control of the therapy process and your goals will direct the work we do together. I’ll use your feedback to tailor our approach so it’s right for you.

I draw on a range of evidenced based approaches to tailor therapy for you. This includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Dialectical Behvaioural Therapy as well as Systemic and Psychoanalytic ideas. In my work with individuals I often also draw on my couples therapy training, helping you to make sense of patterns in relationships and how these might be feeding into you difficulties.

The work we do together might also include an exploration of how your own experiences of being parented, your cultural and spiritual background and neurodiversity have shaped who you are, the way you see things and how you respond. Together we can make sense of how these experiences may be influencing your difficulties and draw on your strengths to help you make changes.
